Rough Draft Does a Parent’s Education Level Affect Their Offsprings Nutritional Habits? Thesis If parents had a high education level then their children will be able to make good dietary decisions and live a healthier life Rationale The study will help society because it can correlate the relationship between a parent s educational level and the food habits of their offspring. This can bridge the gap between what causes certain families to be properly nourished and what causes other families to be undernourished. Introduction There are many concerns regarding the health of adolescents in America. It is not new information that bad eating habits, disregard for health, and lack of exercise contribute to obesity and other health ailments†¦show more content†¦If current trends remain unaltered, childhood obesity is likely to â€Å"challenge worldwide public health† (Must Strauss, 1999). Obesity is capable of influencing physical and mental health for both short and long term. In this paper we review the health consequences that parents have on their offspring. Organized by perspectives,this paper will consider 1) Environmental factors such as the area in which they live, surrounding neighborhoods, and social norms of their city 2) Cultural identification of the areas surround where the study takes place and that of the individual themselves and 3) the economic side of whether or not a higher degree signifies better nutritional values. Unfortunately, there is not a homogenous interpretation of what obesity or what childhood obesity really means. â€Å"Childhood obesity has been variously described by absolute weight, triceps skinfolds, weight-for-height percentiles, percent of ideal body weight and, most recently, by body mass index (BMI ˆ weight in kg=height in meters)† (Must Strauss, 1999). Although there is not a definite indication of a person’s intimate body fat to muscle ratio, they do reasonably measure the amount of body fat inside a person.
